Recommendations for Organizing Learning Activities When Working with the Constellation Digital Station

The methodological resource for implementing creative work in music lessons using the Constellation digital station is designed to provide students with the opportunity to explore the music creation process through contemporary methodology and modern music production equipment. The main components of the Constellation station include a computer, the Logic Pro audio processing software, a MIDI controller, an analog synthesizer, an external sound card, a microphone, headphones, and more. During a lesson, up to three students can work at one station, and the completion of a single task requires 30 minutes. The remaining 10 minutes of the lesson are allocated for the presentation phase, where students provide their classmates with insights into their work process and justify the choices made.

Work with the Constellation station can be carried out as a creative project both within the music lesson—either collectively if digital technology is available to all students—or in group work led by a teacher's assistant trained to operate the station. It can also be used in extracurricular project-based activities with teacher support, or as part of interest-based education.

At the beginning of the lesson, students working with digital technology follow the creative work variant assigned by the teacher. The necessary audiovisual materials for completing the creative tasks are also available at section virtual materials. Each task consists of 10 steps, with 30 minutes allocated for its complete execution. Students complete the task independently, meanwhile, the teacher conducts the lesson for the rest of the class as usual. Since each creative work variant consists of 10 steps, it is recommended to spend no more than 3 minutes on each step. The final 10 minutes are devoted to finalizing and presenting the work in front of the class. During the presentation phase, it is important for students to justify the choices made in the task to achieve its objectives. For example, if the task involves working with an audio fragment of a song that requires adding a vocal recording, students are expected to create suitable audio tracks for both activities, apply the specified audio effects, and finalize the work as an MP3 file version to present it to the class.

Integration of the Constellation station in the music classroom is arranged so that the recording station occupies a space approximately the size of a single table. Since 3–4 students can work at one station simultaneously during a lesson, groups must rotate regularly. Group rotation follows a rotation principle throughout the semester or academic year.

The use of the digital station plays a significant role in the learning process, as it allows students to acquire educational content in a practical way through creative work while deeply developing cross-curricular skills, thus strengthening the connection between new knowledge and personal experience. It is essential to teach students to use digital tools—such as microphones, MIDI controllers, computers, and music software—purposefully, enabling them to achieve curriculum goals and objectives in a creative context. During the process of completing creative tasks, students generate new ideas that can be useful both for in-depth exploration of a specific topic and for their personal development, while music skills allow them to bring new ideas into practice.
